Rehearsals

Rehearsals for 2009-2010 will be held on Monday evenings at Squalicum High School.

Directions

Traveling north or south on I-5 take the Sunset Drive exit, #255. (This exit is by Sunset Square, a large shopping area.) Exit I-5 and proceed east on Sunset Drive. If exiting south bound this is a left turn at the light; if exiting north bound it is a right turn at the light. Proceed approximately two miles to McLeod Road; turn right off of Sunset at the light onto East McLeod. Proceed about 1/3 of a mile and you will now see Squalicum High School to your left.

If you haven't been there before: Use the main entrance (by the large sign), through the front doors, cafeteria will be down the hall on the left, go through the cafeteria almost to a dead end, the Band Room is on the right.

Youth Symphony from 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Junior Symphony from 6:00pm to 7:30pm
Sinfonette from 6:00pm to 7:00pm
Chorale from 6:00pm to 7:00pm

Music Director's Message on March 12th Concert:

There will be a joint rehearsal in Mt. Vernon at Peterson International Music School on the evening of March 11th, 6:30 - 8:45pm to prepare for March 12th concert at McIntyre Hall.

Directions: Go south on I-5, take College Way exit, turn right onto Freeway Drive. Go to the end of the road, trun left and go 3 feet, then turn right into the parking lot.

All young musicians, please arrive one hour before the start time of concerts on March 12th and 13th.

Concert Dress

Sinfonette and Junior Symphony: White long sleeve blouse/shirt and black slacks/trousers or ankle length black skirt and black shoes and stockings/socks.
Youth Symphony and Chorale: Girls dress in black dress uniform (long sleeve floor-length dress); Boys dress in white long sleeve tuxedo shirt with special button and black trousers and jacket; both wear black shoes and stockings/socks.

Auditions

Auditions are mandatory for all new members wanting to play in the advanced level (Youth Symphony) and Junior Symphony members who wish to move up to Youth Symphony level.

Auditions are not required for Sinfonette, Junior Symphony, Chorale or for returning members.

A $5 audition fee and all tuition fees are payable at the time of audition.

Audition Requirements for Youth Symphony

  • A 3 minute solo to demonstrate technical proficiency.
  • Sight reading.
  • Strings play 3-octave major and minor scale.
  • Brass and woodwinds play 2-octave major and minor scale.
